C1RCA/SOURCE PING PONG CHALLENGE
Last Wednesday, June 13, the basement of our Kensington store became host to the first Annual C1RCA/Source Staff Ping Pong Challenge.
Fierce competition came from all around the city, looking to claim the most prized trophy of ping pong, the GOLDEN LADY.
Fueled by Kokanee and Indian Short Ribs courtesy of the Source and C1RCA, the participants met on the ping pong battlefield playing through an excruciating round robin of ping pong mayhem.

The intensity of the competition reached critical levels, with fierce competitors like LT SMASH, SCRAP DOG & MATT (PONY BOY) RAINE taking no prisoners on their way to ping pong victory.

In the end, it was the smooth style and masterful ping pong prowess of Devin Morrison that claimed first place and the coveted GOLDEN LADY.
Second place was claimed by Matt 'Pony Boy' Raine.
Third place went to newcomer and rookie Brendan.
Thanks to Mike and Zev from C1RCA for an intense evening of ping pong madness!

absolutely POSITIVELY an ART SHOW
MACK DAWG STEPS UP HUGE WITH NEW TEASER!
Here is the teaser for Mack Dawg’s new release, “Picture This” due out in September. It looks Brad Kremer and company has invested in some new camera trickery machinery to document this season’s shred tom-foolery. It seems that Mack Dawg trailers are usually pretty mind-blowing in regards of riding, but with “Picture This” they have now added ground-breaking High-Definition cameras to up the ante. Throw a captian-insano line up of riders and “Picture This” should be quite a ground-breaking release.

SICK JUSTIN CAHILL SKATE PHOTOS
NEW SNOW TEAM RIDER

The Source is proud to present new snowboard team rider, Donn Hore.
Have you ever had that feeling when you’re out riding, thinking you’re pretty good and all, and then you see someone come by and destroy the crap out of everything leaving you feeling completely humbled? I find one of two things happen:
1. You think to yourself “wow, I thought I was pretty good, but now I think I completely suck,” and proceed to reminisce about how much more fun snowboarding was when you were actually kinda good at it.
2. You realize right then that snowboarding has so many unopenend doors for you, cause if this dude is blowing them the ___ down, you can at least knock nicely and weasel your way in with some hard work.
#2 is Donn Hore, and we’re not the only ones who think so. His first published shot was the cover of Transworld! He’s also gone on to see a crapshoot of photos published in Snowboard Canada. The future looks bright for young Mr. Hore and we’re stoked to be a part of it!!!
THE SOURCE WINS 2007 SHOP SHOWDOWN!
April 28, 2007- LAKE LOUISE, AB. - TJ Schneider & Dwayne Weibe win the Lake Louise Shop Showdown!
After 15cms of fresh springtime pow fell, it was once again time for the annual Shop Showdown to go down at Lake Louise. The Shop Showdown is an event that pits shops from all over central and western Canada together in a hand-to-hand fight to the death for the title of most ripping shop in the west. Okay that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but the shredding does get pretty heated between shops. Basically the deal is that each shop is represented by teams of two riders (one team rider and one shop employee) that compete in a slopestyle for extravagant prizes and the title of #1 ripping shop in the Wild West. The Source had the most presence at the event, represented with 5 teams.
After a morning of ripping some insane pow, the contest was ready to get going at around noon. The setup had most shop employees “employing” their pants, with a 40 foot table to start into a 60 footer and then some rails after to finish the job. The team consisting of TJ Schneider and Dwayne Weibe pretty much sealed things up first run with TJ dropping a switch back 5 into a front 7 and Dwayne ripping a backside 7 into a frontside 7 to seal the deal.
Dwayne and TJ took home RCR seasons passes for 2008 (an $1100 value) and a Texas Mickey of Jack Daniels for their efforts. Nice work boys!

MASSIVE GREAT WHITE SHARK IN B.C.

I've surfed tons on the west coast and never thought I'd have to worry about this!! Look at the size of this shredding machine!!
UCLUELET, B.C. (West side of Vancouver Island)
While the ocean vessel 'Dawn Raider' was commercial fishing for dogfish, this Great White was hooked in the mouth but only resisted slightly for 15 minutes before it came up alongside the boat to have a look; long enough for one of the crew members to slip a rope around it's tail 'And that's when the it hit the fan!! The Shark took off towing the 42 foot fishing boat backwards through the water at about 7 Knots. Just like in JAWS, the boat was taking on water over the stern and the crew watched in horror as the shark would actually jump completely out of the water at times. This went on for an hour before the shark finally drowned.
She weighed in at 1035 LBS. It is suspected she followed a weak El Nino current into local waters in search of food. Although mid 60 deg. water is considered ideal for these sharks, the larger ones can tolerate water in the low 50s.
GREEN SKATE THIS SATURDAY
All local skateboarders - including street skaters, bowl riders, longboarders, speedboarders, mountainboarders, inline-boarders and slalom-racers - are invited to showcase their environmentally friendly modes of transportation in a cruise along City Of Calgary park paths.
Skateboarders involved in the event will meet at Millennium Park at noon on Saturday April 28. Skaters will then head out along the park paths from Millennium Skatepark, crossing over to the North side of the Bow River pathway at 14th Street NW, and traveling West to Edworthy Park where the group will break for water (provided by SLACalgary). The group will then continue back (via the pathway on the South side of the Bow River) to Millennium Skatepark where participants will have the chance to win prizes from local board shops and skate companies.
All forms of skateboarding are allowed on City of Calgary park paths and are an excellent green alternative to motorized transportation.
Date: April 28TH 2007
Location: loop from Millennium park along river pathway to Bowness park
Time: Noon meeting at Millennium skate park
The Speedboard and Longboard Association of Calgary - a not for profit society - promotes safety and competition in all skateboard and gravity sports. The association was formed by a group of professional speedboarders two-years ago after the death of a local longboarder in order to educate inexperienced riders on safe practices. Since then, the SLACalgary has put on many events in the community including the Paskapoo Downhill Rodeo which is held annually at Coda's Canada Olympic Park in August—an event that last year attracted thousands spectators and 90 competitors from across the world.

SNOWBOARD TEAM UPDATE
The Source Team has been busy!
Well yeah I guess it’s almost that time. Like it or not, the season’s been slowly drawing to a close for the past month, and our riders have been scrambling finishing up filming for their respective projects. Let’s see who’s been doing what:
DEVUN WALSH & KALE STEPHENS:
Devun and Kale have been having a pretty buck-wild season out in BC. Currently finishing up their parts for Whiteout films yet to be named bangerfest, these boys are scraping for the final shots of the season. Check out their website to check pics and blogs to keep up to date. Make sure not to miss the new teasers too, coming in both strappin-heat-gangsta and ultra-sensitive-modern-man soundtrack flavours. Check the Whiteout Films website for more info: www.whiteout-films.com
Also not to be missed is the Wildcats sequel to Lil’ Bastards, appropriately coined “Still Bastards.” Check out the all night chugging mayhem, photos, teaser and general flippin mad shit details at www.the-wildcats.com.
TJ SCHNEIDER:
Since hitting Japan in the new year, TJ’s been on some crazy misadventures. While driving out to Alaska filming for Capita’s new movie “First Kiss,” TJ and crew gave up hope and ended up stopping in Terrace, BC instead… For you geography fans (fun, I know), getting from Calgary to Terrace is no small feat. From the sounds of things, the trip was a complete success despite the setbacks. TJ’s also been seen down at Superpark 11 in Keystone, CO. The general consensus was that Superpark heralded its signature wild style craziness. Check out the teaser for Capita’s First Kiss at http://www.eprodux.com/capitalism.htm
JED ANDERSON:
Little Jed is still so little, it’s crazy. I swear this kid has been 15 for like the past 5 years. Jed’s been off the hook this season; he seriously blows me away every time I see him ride. Killing it on all fronts, Jed’s brought home cash in almost every slopestyle he’s entered this year. He’s also been getting it done in front of the camera, working super hard with Defective Films filming for “Child Support.” Check out the teaser at www.defectivefilms.com
DWAYNE WEIBE & RYAN HALL:
These two have been working together a lot this year and I’m not going to say they’re rail nerds, but they are quite smart when it comes to handrails. Basically everytime these boys bring a shot over to look at, you’re left looking super shocked and they just look at you and say “I just wanted to destroy something beautiful.” I think they’re going goth, but hey we’re friends and we support them anyways. Check out their make-up faces and trenchcoats in sandbox’s new release coming soon at www.sandbox.com
Okay I was kidding they’re not goth they’re G’d up from the fee’d up but that’s what makes it funny right?
MIKE SUDERMANN
Sudermann’s been riding strong and traveling lots this year with trips to Quebec, Golden and Superpark. Off to a super strong start filming with Kevin Sansalone’s new Sandbox release, Sudermann decided to try to stomp a 65 foot front 9 on a 70 foot mega-pop jump at Superpark and bruised both of his heels real badly. You can catch him walking around town making “oooh, eeeeh, ahhhhhh” noises with every step; quite disturbing really. Check out some quick shots of Mike in sandbox’s teaser at www.sandboxland.com.
NASH LAJEUNESSE & GRAHAM FOY:
Yeah I know, Nash is having a ridiculous break-out year. For anyone with their ear to the ground out here, they probably already know this kid is having a pretty Captain-Insano type season. Another rider filming with Sandbox www.sandboxland.com, Nash has been on a tear this year, seemingly going after every rider’s job out here. Well that’s all I gotta say about that. Nash shreds and Graham films and occasionally gets his wicked shred on too. Graham’s signature style has left a wake of about 3.724 million Graham Foy wannabes ripping around the slopes and I don’t think Graham could be more stoked. Use your minions for good Graham, not evil. Graham’s bummed cause he broke the top of his arm last week, but he’s stoked cause you’re gunna go check out his production company, Childe Media, and watch his teaser for his new move The Infidels at www.childemedia.com.
MERCEDES NICOLL:
New team addition Mercedes Nicoll’s had a pretty banger run of late. She placed fifth at the US Open halfpipe, and then quickly flew back to Canada to completely school everyone at the Canadian National Halfpipe Championships. In a day and age where halfpipe riding seems so monotonous, Mercedes’ super laid back and smooth style is as relieving as a kitten rolling a ball of yarn in a spring meadow… and who doesn’t find that relieving? I do. I guess Flow does cause too they just turned her pro. Booyaka shot!
BREANNA STANGELAND & RAEWYN REID:
These girls are ripping and they’re better than you so it rules but it kinda sucks? Don’t believe me? They’re better than me and I’m WAY better than you.
PAUL GONZALEZ:
Paul’s been battling a knee injury all year, but has just been paged by Doctor Love with clearance to get deadly. Wasting no time, Paul’s gotten out to whistler and is putting the boy-band lifestyle shots aside for some savage sled ripping backcountry craziness. You can see Paul’s Rocky-esque fight back up to glory in the new Sandbox release. Check out more info at www.sandboxland.com.
STEPHEN BURCHILL:
Burchill rides for Coor’s Light and that’s pretty much all I have to say about that. Not just settling for waking up in a puddle of his own filth every morning and partying all night, Stephen has gone the extra mile and has put some mean stuff together this year. Apart from taking home a thousand beans at the Bigwhite Slopestyle, Stephen’s also been filming with Apro films for their new production E.F.F.E.D and drinking enough Coor’s to kill a large barnyard animal. check out the teaser and more info at www.aprofilms.com.
THE REST OF THE CREW:
Man, and you know the rest of the Source crew’s been rippin it up too:
Tyler Trafford is maybe one of the most exciting local riders to watch. Yes, that’s right I just said that. That just happened! I don’t really know another dude who can stroll through his local parks and throw down maybe the craziest shit you’ve seen in person first-try-no-warm-up-bitch! Although Tyler would never say that cause despite being quite the danger man, he’s still real modest. You should see him ride rails too, my goodness. Okay I’m jock riding. I’ll stop; let’s move on shall we?
Jared Anderson’s been taking some time outta his crazy schedule of snaking pretty much every major contest practice around to get out sledding in the Golden backcountry. I just hope he doesn’t start smelling like gasoline.
Sid Bryant is making sure that footlocker keeps completely sold out of tall tees in the greater Calgary area, and is likely the most gangsta crip to grace COP’s pipe this year.
Well that’s gunna just about do it. Thanks and we’ll have a summer update soon for you. A lot of these fine people will be coaching at your favorite neighborhood summer snowboard camp, so we’ll peep you posted who’s goin where.
Until then, keep your head up and your nose higher!
Love,
The Source.
NEW SUNGLASS BRANDS ADDED TO ON-LINE STORE
Dragon and Anon make their debut at The Source Online!
Joining IS Design in the online store are two eyewear behemoths: Dragon and Anon Optics.
Unveiling their Spring/Summer 07 collections, there’s a lot new with these brands:
Dragon has added new styles such as the Dusk and GG to their already diverse line. The Dusk a clean frame built with mass appeal in mind- in short, if you don’t know what to get, just rock a pair of Dusks! The GG is a much more stylized sunglass, focused on the kids who rock and exude that through their personal style.
Anon has looked to their signature styling to pull out the stops when designing this summer’s line. With heavy hitters such as the stylized Rufus to the slightly more conservative Crusher, Anon’s got the spectrum covered with signature style.
Check them both out in the webstore and keep tuned for more product updates!

SOURCE RIDERS RETURN FROM SUPERPARK!

This week, Source riders TJ Schneider and Mike Sudermann made the trip down to Keystone, Colorado to partake in the big air craziness at Snowboarder Magazine’s Superpark. Now in it’s 11th edition, Superpark is the site of wild-style air wizardry and circus rail hijinks, and this year’s event was no exception.
The stories are slowly flowing, but for now check out this shot of Mike from the snowboardermag.com website:

Check out this ad from Nissan UK for their new urban SUV the Qashqai:
It’s an amazing bite of Girl’s “Yeah Right” skatetrix antics and is easily the best use of skateboarding in corporate advertising in the past 15 years.
Looks like some ad execs at Nissan might have their heads half screwed on.

SOURCE RIDERS PODIUM AT CANADIAN NATIONALS!!!
3 SOURCE TEAM RIDERS MEDAL AT THE 2007 HONDA CANADIAN NATIONALS HALFPIPE AND SLOPESTYLE. March 2007 24&25, 2007-Canada Olympic Park, CALGARY AB.
COP was the site of this weekend's 2007 Honda Canadian National Snowboard Championships. In addition to crowning a new Canadian National Champion, over $15,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs. Men and women competed for junior and senior national championship titles.
Saturday was the Telus Halfpipe, and admist super warm weather and slow snow conditions, Canada's best came out Firing. Starting out with the ladies, Source Rider Mercedes Nicoll took home 1st place with her smooth frontside 5-backside 5 combos, and Breanna Stangeland took home the junior national title with some smooth style and clean 540-540-handplant combinations at the bottom of the pipe. On the men's side, Source rider Jed Anderson made finals, but couldn't put anything together and finished off the podium.
Like Saturday, Sunday's conditions were no help to the riders for the Ripzone Slopestyle. That didn't stop Jed Anderson, who's wild lines left him on the podium in second place for both the Junior and Senior Slopestyle events. Jed's run consisted of a backside 50-50 to backside 3 off the skate-style hubba ledge into a backside 720 to frontside 540 to switch backside 900 through the jump line. The Source's Breanna Stangeland hooked up second in the ladies junior and senior divisions with some clean 180s through the entire course.
A big congrats to our riders for a job well done!

SOURCE RIDERS WIN/PODIUM AT CANADIAN OPEN SNOWBOARD TOUR SLOPESTYLE!
March 11, 2007-Calgary, AB.
Amidst ridiculously warm and slow conditions, Source riders Jed Anderson and Breanna Stangeland fought through it all to podium in their respective divisions at the Canadian Open Snowboard Tour Slopestyle event at Canada Olympic Park.
As most of the men were having problems just clearing the jumps, Jed was busy winning: blowing everyone out of the water with backside 7 to frontside 9 lines through the slushy jump line.
Breanna locked down second place with some smooth style and good, clean consistency from the qualifying rounds through to finals.
Congrats to Jed and Breanna, who took home $1000 and $350 for thier efforts.

SOURCE RIDER RAEWYN REID WINS AGAIN
SOURCE TEAMRIDER RAEWYN REID WINS LAKE LOUISE SLOPESTYLE
March 3, 2007 - LAKE LOUISE.
Today Source team rider Raewyn Reid took the podium at the Lake Louise Slopestyle. As some of the boys were getting hauled off by the meat wagon, Raewyn shredded the ridiculously sketchy high down rail up top and then dropped a clean front 3 off the big bottom kicker, good enough for first place.
TERJE SETS HIGHEST AIR RECORD!!
TERJE HAAKONSEN SETS HIGHEST TRANSITION AIR RECORD
March 3, 2007 - OSLO, NOR.
The Arctic Challenge always seems to be the site of ludicrously amazing riding. A few short years after Heikki Sorsa broke the quarterpipe highest air record with a backside air, Terje Haakonsen stepped up this year to not only break the record, but shatter it by doing a backside 3.
Oh yeah, everyone else rode real good too. Click the link to witness.
